Sectionals Set for Fridley-area Football Teams

Spring Lake Park and Totino-Grace earned top seeds; Columbia Heights and Fridley also in mix.

While , , and Columbia Heights high school football teams vied against each other in the North Suburban Conference this season, this week only Spring Lake Park and Fridley will be heading to the same sectionals for a chance at a trip to the state football championships.

AAA
Columbia Heights will be facing their first opponent, , in Class 3A in Section 5 on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in New Hope.

AAAA
First-seed Spring Lake Park gets a first-round bye, while fourth-seed Fridley will hit the gridiron at home Tuesday at 7 p.m. against fifth seed Mound-Westonka in Class 4A play in section 6 for a chance to go head to head with conference rivals Spring Lake Park on Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. at Panther Stadium.

AAAAA
Totino-Grace heads to Class 5A play this year in section 2 as first seed and will play North at home at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Totino-Grace coach Jeff Ferguson talked about the team opting-up with Fridley Patch and ; he told the St. Paul Pioneer Press this week, "It feels different in that we'll be playing schools that we have not played in the past, rather than schools that we know well. ... In that way, it's new and exciting."
