She Made Up Hit-and-Run: Fridley Police Blotter

It happened—or didn't happen—outside Applebee's.

Officers responded to a June 24 report of a personal injury report of a hit-and-run incident involving a bike at Applebee's restaurant, 5277 Central Ave. NE. On further investigation, the reporting party admitted she had made up the incident in order to get her boyfriend in trouble.

  • Someone threw sand on the car of a complainant in the 7400 block of Baker Avene NE.
  • The weekend visitor of a complainant in the 5900 block of East River Road cashed three of the host's checks and and attempted to cash a fourth, all without his permission. 
  • A male resident went to police headquarters to report he suspects his roommate of poisoning him.
  • A complainant told police someone stole two chairs and a blanket she had placed along 61st Avenue NE to save a place for the 49er Days parade.
  • Police arrested and jailed a husband and wife in the 5700 block of Second Street NE after both showed visible marks from apparent domestic assault and it wasn't clear which was the aggressor. The husband's two prior convictions made this a felony for him.
  • A 13-year-old complainant told police someone took his iPod Touch after it fell out of his pocket in Commons Park.

June 24:

  • A driver who police saw backing up in a traffic lane in the 200 block of 73rd Avenue NE ended up in jail on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, refusing to be tested, and leaving the scene of a property-damage accident.
  • A caller in the 1000 block of Fillmore Circle NE reported that her brother had stolen items including two guns, but the brother was gone when police arrived.
  • A complainant in the 5600 block of East River Road reported losing $6,500 in a scam in which he received traveler's checks—which turned out to be fake—that he cashed and then wired the money to Turkey.
  • A motorcyclist was hurt and taken to the hospital after apparently losing control in the 6800 block of Brookview Drive NE.
  • The suspect in some missing money and pop-machine parts is a man seen wandering into a business several days earlier in the 400 block of Northco Drive NE. 
  • Police cited a dog-owner for animal cruelty after the owner left two dogs in a car at WalMart, 8450 University Ave. NE, with the windows rolled up.
  • A male who sold gold-plated bracelets as solid gold at Pawn America, 789 53rd Ave. NE, collecting a $905 check, was arrested on a similar fraud in Robbinsdale. 
  • A complainant reported that someone broke into his car at Manomin Park and stole his girfriend's clothing and makeup bag but left behind her purse, wallet and credit cards.
  • A caller reported a burglary in the 5600 block of Polk Street NE in which the stolen items included four guns.
  • Police arrested and jailed a male in the 1000 block of North Circle NE for possession of a firearm that he is not legally allowed to have because of mental illness.
  • Someone wrote in fresh black tar in the 7300 block of West Circle NE, causing about $1,100 in damage. The complainant didn't want to press charges but asked police to speak to the suspect, who admitted the vandalism.


In all incidents where an arrest occurred, a charge is merely an accusation, and not evidence of guilt. The arrested person is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Incidents generally appear in the order in which they were reported, not necessarily the order in which they occurred.
