"With the economy the way it is, we have kids wanting to be in the band whose families don't have the resources to buy or rent an instrument," band director Nora Tycast said. "We feel that every child should have the opportunity to participate in a music program. This program gives the community a chance to give back with the perk that it is tax deductible, and they get to witness first hand what a quality program we have with the free concert.
"This year we have 162 new fifth graders in our programs and 100 seniors graduating," Tycast said. "Every instrument collected will be repaired and cleaned and put into the hands of a student."
