Spring Lake Park High School All-Class Reunion Set for Nov. 11

Unofficial get-together to be held at Monte's Sports Bar.

While Facebook has had its problems, one thing it has done is to bring people together who haven't seen each other for years. This summer Facebook pages started springing up with names like "You know you're from...." or "You know you grew up around...."

Tom Busch, SLP grad, started one for Spring Lake Park: You Know You Grew Up Around Spring Lake Park If...

Seven hundred members have joined this group since its inception, reminiscing about just about anything you can think of from the Spring Lake Park area—from the stores at Northtown to the bars that have come and gone. From school days to parties, to friends who are gone but not forgotten. Just about every subject you can think of has been mentioned.

One commonality has been "we need to get together," so when 1980 SLP grad Curt Racutt, drummer for the band 7evenSynz booked a gig at Monte's for Nov. 11, he contacted Tom and said "let's make it a Spring Lake Park thing."

From its early days as SLP Municipal #2 when it was called University Park or just U.P., Monte's Sports Bar has been a popular hangout. From its sponsorhip of  athletic teams to the great live bands it's had on the weekend, it's a great spot for a reunion.

So far, close to 100 have replied that they are attending, with another 100 or so maybes.

"I'm looking forward to it," Racutt said. "I can't wait to hit the ol' stompin' grounds and see some people I havent seen in years.

"It looks like we'll have some of the members of the old local bands who have played there over the years here that will be jamming with us, such as Element. It should be a blast!"

You can RSVP on the Spring Lake Park All Class Reunion 11-11-11 here.

There is no cost to attend.

Monte's is located at 8299 University Ave. in Spring Lake Park.
