Totino-Grace Football Falls To Skippers 28-0

The loss is the Eagles' first home regular season defeat since 2005, a span of 22 games

The football team dropped its 2011 season opener on Thursday at home, falling to Minnetonka 28-0 in Fridley.

The Eagles (0-1), coming off the Class 4A state championship and four titles in the past five seasons, this season and will compete against the biggest schools in the state come postseason play.

But on Thursday against the Skippers—which hail from a perennially powerful Lake Conference—Totino-Grace couldn’t get its offense rolling and fell at home for the first time since Sept. 16, 2005 (a 29-28 overtime loss to ). The winning streak spanned 22 regular season games.

Last year, Totino-Grace defeated Minnetonka 21-0 on the road.

The Eagles look to bounce back from Thursday’s loss next week when they travel to North Suburban Conference rival Benilde-St. Margaret’s. Game time is set for 7 p.m. on Friday in St. Louis Park.
