I will work with others to increase transportation options in Golden Valley.

Golden Valley is 6 miles from downtown Minneapolis; I would like to see it become easier to access public transportation to get downtown for work or for entertainment.  Likewise, not everyone goes downtown; it would be nice to see some transportation options going from Golden Valley in other directions. MN Highway 55 is a direct artery into downtown and points west.  However buses do not run on weekends or into the evening. There are not enough options for those that use public transportation. I would like to see us continue to work together with the Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County to explore more transportation options for Golden Valley. http://metrotransit.org/Default.aspx

In December 2012 the Golden Valley City Council voted to give initial approval of the Bottineau Transitway. This light rail line would run through the same corridor as the existing BNSF rail line adjacent to Theodore Wirth Park. There is concern from some Golden Valley residents regarding the selection of this route. I believe by keeping Golden Valley engaged with the process, we can work with the Metropolitan Council and Hennepin County to strike a balance between providing a new transportation option and preserving our fragile park and nature area. http://www.bottineautransitway.org/. In the future, this newly elected city council will be voting to give municipal consent to the proposed Bottineau line. I intend to gather all the facts, listen to all the concerns and make an informed and thought-out decision that is right for Golden Valley.
