GOLDEN VALLEY, MN — KARE 11 anchor Julie Nelson returned to the anchor desk Monday, months after she and her husband were injured in a boating accident on a Wisconsin lake in June.
Nelson announced June 16 that she and her husband, Kurt Krumenauer, were hurt in a one-boat crash on Balsam Lake near Pine Island, Wisconsin, and were both treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Polk County officials said the crash happened around 11 p.m. on June 13, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources opened an investigation.
Nelson, 54, has co-anchored KARE 11's newscasts since joining the station in 2003. She is now co-anchoring the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts as she continues to recover, with plans to return to the 10 p.m. broadcast later, the station said.
"The kindness and encouragement from viewers has meant so much to me," Nelson said.
"It's great to have Julie back behind the desk," said KARE 11 President and General Manager Doug Wieder.
