Armstrong seniors qualify for state speech tournament

Armstrong seniors Hannah Cowan and Courtney Nelson have qualified for the 2015 State Speech Tournament.

Armstrong seniors Hannah Cowan and Courtney Nelson have qualified for the 2015 State Speech Tournament. This is the first time either student has qualified for the event.

This marks the third year in a row Robbinsdale Armstrong speech has qualified to the state tournament, and the first time they have qualified in Dramatic Duo Interpretation.

“It is great to see that the hard work Courtney and Hannah put into their speech has paid off with a trip to the state tournament,” said head coach DJ Brynteson. “This is great for them and the entire team.”

Additionally, freshmen Felicia Peterson and Eva Birkholz, and sophomore Abigail Stoesz, ​made it to the final round of the section tournament, but came up just short on qualifying to the state tournament.

The MSHSL State Speech Tournament is April 18 at Lakeville North High School. Cowan and Nelson will perform their piece, a parody of Suzanne Collins’ “The Hunger Games,” at the event.
