Breck Swimmers Take 7th At State
Mustangs earn seven All-State honors at Saturday's Class A meet
senior Maddy Holker couldn’t hold back her emotions Saturday at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.
Holker represented the Mustangs for the final time at Saturday’s Class A state swimming and diving meet, ending a five-year career with the program and sending a whirlwind of memories her way as the meet came to a close.
“Mostly I’m just really sad it’s over,” she said. “I love this team so much, and it’s hard to let them go.”

She and her fellow seniors did so in style Saturday.

But the Mustangs held their own and earned All-State honors in seven events.
Junior Abby Erdmann took home the team’s top finish in the 500 freestyle, placing second with a 5:07.36 time. Had it not been for Sartell-St. Stephen’s Marisa Wood—who broke the all-time state record with a 4:49.68 performance—Erdmann would have led the field.
Erdmann finished fourth in the 200 freestyle, the 200 medley relay finished fifth, and Holker finished fifth in the 100 butterfly. Senior Chandra Yueh took sixth in the 50 freestyle, and Holker did the same in the 200 IM. The 400 freestyle relay also finished eighth, earning All-State recognition.
Holker said she’ll miss being a leader on the Mustangs team and the feeling inspired by seeing the squad come together to achieve great things.
Her message to future Breck squads?
“Bring it together in the end,” she said. “As we go, I think it’s important for them to just step up. I know they all can improve so much.”
