Breck's Lee Earns State Laurels at Class A Gymnastics Meet
Mustangs senior and co-captain places sixth on balance beam as Breck gymnasts close out 2010-11 season at state individual championship meet.
You'll have to excuse Libby Lee if she was a bit amazed by her sixth-place finish on the balance beam at the Class A state gymnastics individual championship meet on Saturday at the University Of Minnesota Sports Pavilion.
While the Breck senior and co-captain was indeed hoping to earn a medal on the day to close out her high school career, she didn't altogether believe it would be on beam.
"I didn't expect it," she said. "It's not my favorite event."

But after earning a spot on the medal stand with a 9.025 in the event to earn a maroon-ribboned award, she'll take it.
"I'm ecstatic and very happy," she said. "It's very exciting."

Lee, one of the Mustangs four individual state qualifiers -- joining teammates Sammy Cosgriff, Tori Goldstein and Niara Hill -- recorded her best effort on beam en route to taking 18th in the all-around with a four-event score of 35.175.
Hill and Goldstein also took part in the all-around competition, finishing in 23rd and 30th with respective scores of 34.425 and 33.175.
Cosgriff placed 32nd on the uneven bars, her lone competition of the day, suffering a fall off the top bar before completing her routine and posting a score 7.5.
For Lee, the meet was a nice way to not only end a season, but her time as a high school gymnast.
"I thought I did real well today and on the season the team also did well," she said. "We really progressed this year and it was great."
