Busy Thursday For Local Sports Squads

Several mid-week games were lost to postponement yet again, yet Mother Nature cooperated at last on Thursday and local teams were able to at last get in the bulk of a full day's worth of competitions.

Armstrong Girls Lacrosse: Falcons 12, Blaine 5

Behind four goals apiece from Paige Duerksen and Talia Shapiro, the Robbinsdale Armstrong girls lacrosse team thumped Blaine, 12-5, at home on Wednesday night to improve to 4-2 on the spring.

The Falcons have the weekend off before a trip to take on Coon Rapids at 6:30 p.m. Monday night.

Armstrong Boys Lacrosse: Blaine 8, Falcons 1

Kevein Langerud's goal was all the Robbinsdale Armstrong boys lacrosse team could msuter up in an 8-1 loss at Blaine—the Falcons' first defeat of the season on Wednesday.

Now at 4-1, Armstrong welcomes Chaska/Chanhassen to town for a 6:30 p.m. game on Friday.

Armstrong Baseball: Maple Grove 8, Falcons 4

The Robbinsdale Armstrong baseball team fell to 7-2 with an 8-4 loss at Northwest Suburban Conference opponent Maple Grove on Thursday.

A 5-2 loss at Maple Grove dropped the Robbinsdale Armstrong softball team to 2-5 with a Monday game slated at Blaine next on the calendar. Individual results were not available.

Armstrong Boys Golf: Falcons 14th At Brainerd Invitational

The Robbinsdale Armstrong boys golf team finished in 14th place at plus-29 in the Brainerd Invitational at Pines of Grand View on Wednesday. Individual results were not available.

Cooper Boys Lacrosse: Hawks 8, Simley 7

The Robbinsdale Cooper boys lacrosse team earned its second win in six tries on Thursday with an 8-7 overtime win at Simley in Inver Grove Heights. 

JJ Cruikshank, Steve Cox and Julien Chamleusouk each scored twice in the victory, with the Hawks now preparing for a home game against Spring Lake Park at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Cooper Baseball: Hawks 5, Spring Lake Park 0

A 5-0 shutout of spring Lake Park in a non-conference road game on Thursday kept the Robbinsdale Cooper baseball team undefeated at 7-0 on the year.

Cooper Girls Lacrosse: Mound-Westonka 16, Hawks 11

A 16-11 home loss to Mound-Westonka dropped the Robbinsdale Cooper girls lacrosse team to 0-5 on the spring with a Tuesday night road game at Orono next on the calendar. Individual statistics were not available.

Cooper Softball: Irondale 8, Hawks 7

The Robbinsdale Cooper softball team fell 8-7 at Irondale to drop to 1-5 overall and 1-4 in North Suburban play.

Breck Boys Golf: Mustangs, Laorr, Win Tri-Metro Meet

Eric Laorr earned co-medalist honors with a one-under-par card of 35 to lead the Breck boys golf team to a winning score of 150 in a Tri-Metro Conference meet at River Oaks Golf Course on Thursday. 

Breck Girls Golf: Laorr Leads Mustangs To Conference Dual Win

Anna Laorr recorded a five-over-par 41 to lead the Breck girls golf team to a 214-298 win versus St. Paul Academy in a Tri-Metro dual meet at Somerset Golf Course on Thursday.

Breck Girls Lacrosse: Blake 12, Mustangs 4

The Breck girls lacrosse team fell to .500 at 3-3 after a 12-4 loss to Blake on Thrusday in a Tri-Metro matchup.

Breck Softball: St. Croix Lutheran 9, Mustangs 5

A 9-5 loss to Tri-Metro foe St. Croix Lutheran dropped the Breck softball team to 1-4 on the season with a Friday afternoon game at St. Agnes next up on the schedule.

Taylor Niesen leads the Mustangs with a .333 batting average in 15 at-bats, with Kate Schipper hitting .308 with five runs batted in 13 at-bats.

Hopkins Boys Lacrosse: Wayzata 11, Royals 5

An 11-5 loss to Lake Conference rival Wayzata at home on Thursday dropped the Hopkins boys golf team to 3-3 on the year heading into another circuit game versus circuit opponent Edina at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

Derek Brueske, Griffith Woodyard and Ryan Hazuka are all tied for the Royals' scoring lead with 11 points each.

Hopkins Girls Lacrosse: Wayzata 13, Royals 4

The Hopkins girls lacrosse team fell, 13-4, to Lake foe Wayzata at home on Thursday to drop to 1-6 on the spring.

Individual statistics were not available. Hopkins hosts Minnetonka on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.

Hopkins Girls Golf: Royals Drop Two In Lake Conference Play

The Hopkins girls golf team was nipped by a single stroke, 188-189, by Minnetonka on Wednesday at Oak Ridge Country club, then fell 185-205 to Edina at Braemar golf Course on Thursday in Lake Conference dual meets. Individual results were not available.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Baseball: Red Knights 8, Spring Lake Park 6

An 8-6 home win over Spring Lake Park on Wednesday improved the Benilde-St. Margaret's baseball team to 6-2 on the season heading into its cross-town match-up with St. Louis Park—now slated to be played at Dakota Park at 4:15 p.m. Friday.

Against Spring Lake Park, the Red Knights took advantage of four Panthers errors to post a five-run fifth inning that proved to be the crucial frame of the contest.

Gabe MacDonald led BSM with two runs scored on a 1-for-3 day at the plate, while Patrick Daly, Joe Melles and Bobby Papetti each notched one RBI.

After Friday's rivalry game, the Red Knights are scheduled to host Wayzata on Saturday at noon.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Softball: Red Knights 14, North Branch 2

The Benilde-St. Margaret's softball team improved to 4-1 on the year with a 14-2 thumping of North Suburban Conference rival North Branch on the road Wednesday night.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Boys Tennis: Red Knights 4, Orioles 3
