Calvary Lutheran Church Names Thompson as New Senior Pastor

New leader now overseeing congregation's mission, outward-focused ministry & community partnerships

GOLDEN VALLEY, MINN. (June 4, 2018) – Calvary Lutheran Church, Golden Valley, Minn., is pleased to announce and welcome the Reverend Zach Thompson as the congregation’s new senior pastor.

Thompson assumed his role at Calvary on Friday, June 1. He is now responsible for overseeing the church’s mission to lead people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, which involves not only working with staff and members in outward-focused, Bible-based ministry, but also building positive, impactful partnerships with other congregations and organizations.

“I have a passion for sharing the Good News of Jesus and helping people discover how He has wired them to make a difference in the world,” said Thompson. “This will remain Calvary’s invitation to everyone who comes through our doors: to discover that sense of belonging and purpose that we all long for and were made for.”

Rejoice! doubled in its attendance since he took the helm nearly five years ago; two-thirds of the congregation’s adults are now participating in weekly small groups focused on caring for one another and encouraging each other in living out God’s plan for their lives.

Thompson has also held pastoral positions at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church in Afton and Lutheran Church of Hope in Des Moines, Iowa. He earned his bachelor's degree from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minn., and his Master of Divinity degree from Luther Seminary in St. Paul.
