These incidents all occurred overnight (Saturday – Sunday) from cars that are parked in driveways and all of the vehicles had been unlocked. Unknown thieves stole misc items including: briefcases, GPS units, spare change, and garage door openers. In one incident, the thieves used one of the garage door openers to gain access into an attached garage and rifle through another vehicle.
One of the most effective ways to avoid becoming a victim is to lock your vehicle and to not leave valuables in the vehicle. By locking your doors, it may discourage some of the more casual thieves, the ones looking for the opportunity to steal. It will also deter those who would go into an unlocked car to look for a trunk or hood release button in order to steal contents of the trunk. Again, in these incidents, the thieves did not forcibly enter any of the vehicles.
