Golden Valley City Hires 5 Firefighters

The WSFA is a multi-city cooperative training program between the Fire Departments of Golden Valley, Plymouth, Maple Grove, and West Metro.

The Golden Valley Fire Department (GVFD) will send three of its five new recruits to the West Suburban Fire Academy (WSFA) this January to begin their careers as firefighters. The other two are already state-certified firefighters from other cities who will learn Golden Valley’s equipment, apparatus, and procedures/policies.

Upon completing the Academy in June, the new firefighters will have completed more than 200 hours of training and earned three state certifications, Firefighter I, Firefighter II, and Hazardous Materials Operations. The next step is to earn their Emergency Medical Responder certification.
