Golden Valley City Officials Ask Residents To Heed Safety Guidelines While Visiting Parks

To help slow the spread of coronavirus, use of playground and park equipment is discouraged.

The outdoors are still open in Golden Valley, and the City wants to ensure you enjoy its parks and open spaces safely. Activities like walking, running, biking, and hiking are acceptable as long you remain at least six feet away from individuals from other households. To help slow the spread of COVID-19, use of playground and park equipment is discouraged. Activities that cannot be performed while observing the six-foot social distancing rule, such as group sports and activities with people not living in your household, are also discouraged.

The following guidelines are recommended by the Minnesota Department of Health and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

  • Practice social distancing. Although parks and trails remain open for walking and exercise, keep at least six feet away from others in the park.
  • Avoid touching surfaces in the park. According to the CDC, current evidence suggests COVID-19 may remain viable for hours to days on surfaces made from a variety of materials. The City does not sanitize playground and other park equipment (picnic tables, benches, etc).
  • Wash your hands frequently with soap and water after touching public surfaces.
  • Do not congregate in groups. This includes basketball, soccer, volleyball, and other activities that may involve contact with someone from another household.
  • Please stay home if you are sick.

In accordance with Governor Walz’s Executive Orders 20-20, 20-08, and 20-04, the City’s indoor recreation facilities and Brookview Golf Course will remain closed until further notice. The COVID-19 page on the City website has information about the status of closures, cancellations, and changes.
