Golden Valley Residents Should Know Their Rights When Voting
During the October 8 forum, a moderated panel will explore history of voter rights and discuss barriers to voting that people face.
October 3, 2020
Voters in Minnesota are entitled to a number of rights. Did you know you have the right take time off work to vote without losing your pay, personal leave, or vacation time? Did you know your employer cannot bar you from leaving work to vote? Voter rights such as these, and voter access, will be discussed in the City’s Oct 8 virtual forum “Building An Equitable Golden Valley: What Does It Mean to Have Access to Voting?”

Voters in Minnesota also have the right to:
- register to vote on Election Day if you can show the required proof of residence
- bring your children with you to vote
- vote if you are in line to vote any time before 8 pm
- get a replacement ballot if you make a mistake on your ballot before you cast it
- file a written complaint at your polling place if you are unhappy with the way an election is being run
- vote if you were convicted of a felony and have finished all parts of your sentence, including any probation, parole, or supervised release
During the Oct 8 forum, a moderated panel will explore the history of voter rights and discuss barriers to voting that people face, including COVID. A Q&A session will follow. The event will be hosted on Webex from 6–7:30 pm, broadcast on CCX Channel 16, and streamed at ccxmedia.org and on the City’s Facebook page.
