The emergency notification tool the City currently uses will be discontinued in 2021, meaning an upgrade was needed, according to Golden Valley Fire Chief and Emergency Management Director John Crelly.

GV Emergency powered by CodeRED will allow the City to communicate emergency notifications in a variety of ways, including voice, text, email, social media, mobile app, and more. The tool also offers residents the option of signing up for general notifications (non-emergency alerts), like burning bans, road closures, and water service disruptions.

Residents already registered for GV Emergency will not need to re-register, as all existing contact information will be transferred to the new tool. Residents who are not registered, or would like to update their transferred contact information, will be able to do so once the new system is implemented at the end of December 2020. The service will remain free for all residents.

More information will be published on the City website in the coming weeks. For questions, please call the Golden Valley Fire Department at 763-593-8055.
