Golden Valley Softball Is A 'Huge Part of Our Summer Lifestyle'

A Golden Valley family says the softball league is something they look forward to every season.

The Golden Valley Girls Softball League is in full swing this year. A recent mid-season tournament brought out hundreds of players and spectators. With 17 Junior League teams and 25 Senior League teams, the organization has become a staple in the community.

Golden Valley Patch spoke with a team sponsor and mother, Karla Rose, who is involved in the league. She talks about the importance of the community organization and how tournaments add to her family's summer fun in Golden Valley.

Karla Rose: It's a family affair for us! I sponsor Team Karla Rose Edina Realty. My husband, Tim Rose, coaches our team with Chris O’Connor and Jeff Biggerstaff. Our daughter Kyra Rose, a 5th grader from Robbinsdale Spanish Immersion, plays on the team. Our son, a 6th grader from Plymouth Middle School, helps out with practices and several of his classmates are also on our team.

Karla Rose: Golden Valley Girls Softball is a huge part of our spring and summer lifestyle. This is our 3rd year in the league and although it is a big commitment, we absolutely love it! The girls really enjoy the game and the friendships they make. It is a good way for them to keep some structure in their lives through the summer months. Plus, so many of their friends are in the league, every game is like a mini reunion with friends and neighbors. The teammates become very close throughout the season and really miss the games and each other when the season ends in July.

Golden Valley Patch: What lessons are learned through sporting events like this?

Karla Rose: In addition to learning to play a lifelong sport, the girls learn teamwork, sportsmanship, how to handle success and failure and it is loads of fun for the girls and parents, grandparents, aunts uncles and friends as well!
