Hawks Homecoming Party Ravaged by Knights
Robbinsdale Cooper blanked in second half, fall to Irondale 18-13.
Irondale High School scored the only points of the second half on a one-yard touchdown run by Justus Canfield to defeat the Hawks 18-13 and sour the Robbinsdale Cooper High School homecoming Friday night.
The Knights (3-1 North Suburban Conference, 3-2 overall) jumped out to a 12-0 within the first quarter and a half with a field goal, saftey and a Jesse Schloesser one-yard touchdown run. The Hawks (2-3, 2-3) responded with two quick touchdowns in the latter half of the second quarter to take the lead. Junior Leroy Taylor scored both Hawks touchdowns: an 88-yard kick return and a 34-yard reception from junior Briceon Scott.
The Hawks had opportunities to score in the second half, including a first-and-goal situation from the 6-yard line in the third quarter. The drive ended with a botched snap that denied a field-goal attempt on fourth down. The Hawks have yet to score in a third quarter of a game this season.
Next up: The Hawks take on the Columbia Heights Hylanders (0-4) 7 p.m. Friday at Columbia Heights High School.
