Deconstruction Grants
To help divert waste from landfills, Hennepin County is offering grants to property owners and developers to deconstruct residential buildings and salvage building materials instead of disposing of them.
The County’s grants strive to make deconstruction a more affordable option by offering up to $5,000 per deconstruction project to help offset added time and costs.

Food Waste Survey
Hennepin County is conducting a survey to gather information on how its residents shop for, store, cook, and eventually dispose of their food. The County plans to use the results, along with findings from additional research, to develop resources and messaging to help residents prevent food waste.
The survey is open to all Hennepin County residents until March 15. Take the survey here.
Business Recycling Grants
Hennepin County now offers two types of grants to businesses for recycling and waste prevention in 2021.
The Bin and Compostable Bag Grant provides up to $3,000 worth of containers and compostable bags from the County’s product list.
The Waste Prevention Grant focuses on replacing disposables with reusables, food waste prevention, and innovative projects around research and development to prevent waste.
Household Battery Disposal
Batteries make our daily lives more convenient but once they are used, if they aren’t disposed of properly they can be very dangerous.
Hennepin County offers free household battery recycling at multiple locations. Visit the County website to learn more.
