Menards' Closing Day

Today is the last day before Menards closes its doors until spring 2012.

If you’re itching for a last-minute home improvement project on a budget, head over to Menards before 10 p.m. today. The Golden Valley location of this hardware store, at 6800 Wayzata Blvd., will close its doors for good Feb. 18 until the spring of 2012, when a new, 250,000-square-foot, two-story building opens stock full of home improvement materials.

Today customers looking to get a good deal perused the closeout display windows and doors, leftover landscaping rocks and even the counters holding the cashier’s registers—all at discounts between 50 to 75 percent. Anything not sold today will go back to the corporate office in Eau Claire, WI. The City Council in January approved plans to tear down the 30-year-old, 128,00-square-foot store.

Employees of the Golden Valley location will be transferred to other stores throughout the Twin Cities until the new building is up and running.
