Minnesota Drivers Declare Independence From Gasoline

Roughly 300,000Minnesotans have a unique freedom to celebrate this Independence Day -- the freedom of choice at the fuel pump.   As owners of flex fuel vehicles, they can choose between traditional gasoline or cleaner-burning E85, a made-in-America fuel that reduces tailpipe emissions and usually costs less than regular unleaded.  Flex fuel vehicles can also use mid-level ethanol blend fuels such as E30 and E50, sold at more than 75 retail locations in Minnesota with blender pumps.  Minnesota motorists bought nearly 2 million gallons of E85 in May, the last month with complete sales records of the fuel.

“Minnesota has more E85 stations than any other state, so finding a place to fill a flex fuel vehicle is relatively easy here,” said Robert Moffitt, a spokesperson for the American Lung Association in Minnesota. “Vehicle emissions are the single largest source of air pollution in Minnesota, so having access to a cleaner-burning option like E85 is a very important step toward cleaner air, more renewable fuels and greater energy independence.”
