Minnesota School of Basketball Opens Its Doors in Golden Valley

This week the Minnesota School of Basketball opened at its new location in Golden Valley. 

It moved to a new facility in Golden Valley after losing its lease at its former location in Plymouth.

"We looked at several places nearby and picked Golden Valley because of it’s location," said MN School of Basketball Owner and Director Brian Ammann. "The layout of the facility will be much better."

Instruction will remain the same. The school offers basketball training for athletes from second grade through college level players.  

"Our training is all fundamental based," Ammann said. "We do not play games. It is strictly a training facility."

"We had camps at our Plymouth location on Friday, Aug. 30 until noon," Ammann said. "We were completely moved out of Plymouth by 3 p.m.  By 7 p.m. we had the floor in place and it began to look like a basketball facility. Prior to this point, we already had spent hundreds of man hour time painting, cleaning, and preparing for the move.  It took all of Labor Day weekend to finish the move."

"It is a great location, easy access from Hwy 169 and Hwy 55," he said. "We look forward to working with the local youth associations as we are now basically in their backyard."

The School is located at 8840 7th Ave. N. in Golden Valley.

Ammann is also one of the instructors of the facility. He has had 20 years of college coaching experience and teaches all of the School's instructors to teach the individual and groups using the same terminology, which allows them to have the athletes going between instructors without missing a beat. 

There are currently have five instructors working for at the School and all have been with us for three plus years or more.  

Last September, the Golden Valley City Council approved a conditional use permit for the business, the city's Planning Commission recommended the School for the building rather than a previous proposal by a Halloween vendor called Disturbia in Suburbia, which has been running out of a home in Plymouth for many years.
