Minnesota's March Primary: Absentee Voting, How To Register, And More

March 3, 2020 will be Minnesota’s first presidential primary election in nearly 30 years. Absentee voting begins Jan 17.

Voters will select one of the two major political parties (Democratic-Farmer-Labor or Republican) and vote for the candidate they want to represent the party in the Nov 2020 presidential election. As of Jan 3, 2020, one Republican candidate and 15 Democratic candidates will appear on Minnesota ballots. The Legal Marijuana Now Party and Grassroots-Legalize Cannabis Party will not be participating in the Presidential Nomination Primary. Register To Vote

Residents will need to register if they have never voted and will need to re-register if their name has changed, have a different address, or they have not voted in four years. Preregistration for the primary election closes Feb 11 at 5 pm or registration can be done the day of the presidential primary at polling places with required information to prove residency. Absentee Voting

Absentee voting means voting by mail or in person before Election Day instead of at the polling place. Absentee ballots are available 46 days before an election. Voters do not need a specified reason to receive and cast an absentee ballot. Learn more on the City website.

Election Day
