Miss Black Minnesota USA Emilie Muvundamina

Emilie Muvundamina, the newly crowned Miss Black Minnesota USA 2016, is making her rounds throughout the Twin Cities to share her message and her platform, “The Sweet Heart,” which focuses on educating people about heart health and diabetes. On May 20, she shared her story with her family of residents at Covenant Village of Golden Valley, a senior living community in Golden Valley and, for the past four years, her home as a receptionist on the weekends. “This is the best job. I get to see everyone as they walk in and talk with residents and get to know their families,” she said. “I even learned to knit from one of the residents.”

Muvundamina, a Minneapolis resident, graduated from the University of Minnesota last December and plans to attend pharmacy school. Until then, she’ll share her message with fellow Minnesotans and in August 2016 will travel to Washington DC to compete in the 2016 Miss Black USA Scholarship Pageant. “Emilie is such a beloved member of our team. We are so proud of her, and we will be rooting for her in August!” said Resident Life Director Robyn Baumgarten.
