Author Odell Bjerkness will discuss his new book, Norwegian Folk Weddings: Origin of Modern Cultural Traditions, on Thursday, Feb. 26 at 2:30 p.m., at Covenant Village of Golden Valley, a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities.

Bjerkness will take guests back to the 1800s as he explores the rich traditions of Norwegian folk art and how intellectuals, artists, politicians and the Oslo élite established elements that would help define Norway as a new nation.

He received the prestigious Order of St. Olav medal from King Olav of Norway, and Luther College’s Distinguished Alumni award.
