Public Invited to Free Calvary Block Party on Sept. 22
Calvary Hosts Community Event Featuring Chili Cook-off, Live Music, Fun & Games

GOLDEN VALLEY, MINN. (Sept. 6, 2018) - The last official day of summer is cause for special celebration and a chance to gather outdoors with neighbors and friends. In that spirit, Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, Minn., invites the community to the Calvary Block Party on Saturday, Sept. 22, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will be free of charge and located in the church’s outdoor park at 7520 Golden Valley Road.
Calvary will provide free chili with all the fixings, hot dogs, macaroni and cheese, as well as other refreshments. The event will feature live music, bonfires and a wide assortment of activities, including bag toss, giant yard games, 9 Square in the Air and more.
The public is also invited to participate in the event’s chili cook-off contest. Register for the chili cook-off by visiting calvary.org/blockparty; the registration deadline is Sunday, Sept. 16. For a $20 registration fee and two gallons of chili, participants will be eligible to win two all-inclusive Vikings game tickets and apparel (first place), and an Instant Pot and Hackenmueller’s gift certificate (second place). The popular vote winner will receive a trophy. Further details (i.e., cooking and serving instructions) are provided in the registration materials; the contest is limited to the first 40 entries.

Everyone who either casts a vote in the chili cook-off contest or shows a new “like” for Calvary’s Facebook page by cell phone or tablet will receive a ticket for free brunch back at the church on Sunday, Sept. 23, from 9 a.m. to noon (one free ticket per person). The brunch menu will include eggs, breakfast meats, pastries, fruit and beverages (regularly $5 per person).
