Public Invited to Free “Hi, Neighbor!” Block Party on Sept. 23

Calvary Hosts Community Event Featuring Chili Cook-off, Live Music, Fun & Games

In their book The Art of Neighboring, Jay Pathak and Dave Runyon stress the importance of “building genuine relationships right outside your door.” In that spirit, Calvary Lutheran Church in Golden Valley, Minn., invites the community to its “Hi, Neighbor!” Block Party on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. The event will be free of charge and located at 7520 Golden Valley Road, in the church’s outdoor park.

Calvary will provide free chili with all the fixings, as well as other refreshments and a kids food station. Attendees are also invited to enter the church’s first-ever chili cook-off contest. Register for the chili cook-off by visiting calvary.org/hineighbor; the registration deadline is Sunday, Sept. 17. For a $20 registration fee and two gallons of chili, participants will be eligible to win two Vikings game suite tickets and apparel (first place) or a meat smoker (second place). Further details (i.e., cooking and serving instructions) are provided in the registration materials; the contest is limited to the first 30 entries.

The “Hi, Neighbor!” Block Party will also feature live music, bonfires and a wide assortment of activities, including bag toss, giant yard games, 9 Square in the Air and more. Visit calvary.org/hineighbor for all the details.
