Red Knights Baseball, Softball Third At Weekend Tournaments

The Benilde-St. Margaret's baseball and softball teams highlighted the weekend sports schedule in the Golden Valley area with third-place finishes in their respective tournaments in Apple Valley and Duluth.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Baseball: Red Knights Third At Apple Valley

A 14-12 defeat of Breck on Saturday capped a two-day run at the Apple Valley Tournament in which the Red Knights earned a third-place finish after splitting its two tourney games.

Shayne Cernia led BSM in the third-place game with a home run and four runs batted in on two hits. Sam Scherer earned the victory by pitching 2 2/3 innings of relief.

On Friday, the Red Knights were defeated by Brookings, S. Dak., 4-1, with Patrick Daly driven home by Joe Melles in the fifth inning for BSM's only run of the game.

Weather permitting, the Red Knights—currently 9-4 overall and 8-2 in North Suburban Conference play—are scheduled to travel to Columbia Heights for a 4:15 p.m. game on Monday.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Softball: Red Knights Split At Duluth East Tournament

The Benilde-St. Margaret's softball team split its pair of games at the Duluth East Tournament, losing 10-0 to Duluth Central before beating Osseo 8-4 on Saturday.

Individual results were not available.

The Red Knights head into this week with a 7-5 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the North Suburban, with a scheduled game at Totino-Grace on Monday at 4:15 p.m.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Girls Lacrosse: Edina 18, Red Knights 8

An 18-8 loss at Edina on Saturday afternoon dropped the Benilde-St. Margaret's girls lacrosse team to 4-3 on the season.

Paige Lawlor's 10 goals lead the Red Knights this season, with Maddy Moore posting nine tallies so far this spring.

BSM is scheduled to host cross-town rival St. Louis Park on Tuesday at 7 p.m.; the Orioles are currently 5-2 on the season.

Hopkins Softball: Shakopee 6, Royals 1

A 6-1 loss at Shakopee last Friday dropped the Hopkins softball team to 12-2 on the season. 

Individual results were not available. The Royals are scheduled to host Minnetonka on Monday at 4:15 p.m.

Hopkins Baseball: Eden Prairie 6, Royals 4

The Hopkins baseball team lost 6-4 to host Eden Prairie on Friday to fall to 7-7 overall and 2-5 in the Lake Conference.

Individual results were not available. The Royals are scheduled to host Minnetonka at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.

Hopkins Boys Lacrosse: Royals 10, Minneapolis 3

A 10-3 defeat of the Minneapolis co-op team improved the Hopkins boys lacrosse team to 4-6 on the season.

Derek Brueske scored a team-high six goals in the game, with Ryan Hazuka topping the Royals with four assists.

Hopkins hosts Eden Prairie at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Hopkins Girls Lacrosse: Royals 13, Minneapolis 12

The Hopkins girls lacrosse team topped Minneapolis, 13-12, on Saturday for its second win in eight tries this season.

Individual results were not available. The Royals host Eden Prairie on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Breck Baseball: Mustangs Fourth At Apple Valley Tournament

The Breck baseball team finished fourt at the Apple Valley Tournament over the weekend after losses to the host Eagles (12-5) on Friday and Benilde-St. Margaret's (14-12) on Saturday.

Individual results were not available. The losses dropped the Mustangs to 3-5 on the spring with a Monday game scheduled at St. Agnes at 4 p.m.

Breck Softball: Mustangs Fall To 4-7

Three losses in four games at the Concordia Tournament dropped the Breck softball team to 4-7 on the season.

The Mustangs first dropped a 19-0 decision to Woodbury in the tourney opener on Friday, before going 1-1 on Saturday with a 14-2 defeat of Blake along with a 13-6 loss to the host Beacons.

Individual results were not available. Breck is scheduled to host Concordia Academy on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

Breck Boys Lacrosse: Mustangs 13, Woodbury 11

A 13-11 non-conference win over Woodbury on Friday improved the Breck boys lacrosse team to 2-6 on the season.

Steven Kiesel led the Mustangs with eight goals in 13 shots in the victory.

Breck hosts Hill-Murray on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Breck Girls Lacrosse: Minnetonka 19, Mustangs 7

The Breck girls lacrosse team fell to 3-6 on the year after a 19-7 loss at Minnetonka on Friday. 

Carly Schaeder leads the Mustangs with 25 points. Breck hosts Holy Family Catholic on Monday at 7 p.m.

Armstrong Boys Lacrosse: Falcons 11, Holy Family 3

After falling behind 1-0 in the first quarter, the Robbinsdale Armstrong boys lacrosse team surged back to win 11-3 at Holy Family Catholic on Friday.

Elliot Florence led the Falcons with three goals, with Daniel Dmohoski scoring twice in the win.

Armstrong hosts Anoka at 6:30 p.m. Monday night.

Cooper Girls Lacrosse: Mahtomedi 16, Hawks 7

The Robbinsdale Cooper girls lacrosse team fell to 0-8 on the year with a 16-7 loss to Mahtomedi on Friday.

Brigetta Ottoson scored four goals, with Alex Su scoring twice for the Hawks in the loss. 

Cooper hosts Irondale at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Cooper Baseball: Hawks Lose First Game Of Season

The Robbinsdale Cooper baseball team lost its first game of the season, 8-2, to St. Louis Park on Friday night. 

Individual statistics were not available. The Hawks are scheduled to host Irondale on Monday at 4:15 p.m.

Cooper Softball: Spring Lake Park 6, Hawks 3

The Robbinsdale Cooper softball team lost 6-3 at Spring Lake Park on Friday to fall to 4-8 overall and 4-7 in the North Suburban.

Individual results were not available. Cooper hosts Park Center on Tuesday at 4:15 p.m.

Cooper Track And Field: Hawks Seventh, Eighth at Edina Invite

The Robbinsdale Cooper track and field teams both competed at the Edina Invitational on Friday, with the girls scoring 43.3 points to take seventh and the boys coming in eighth with 35 points.

Pilgrim Brooks earned a team-high fourth place finish by elaping 5 feet, 10 inches in the high jump, while Alexa Baker's third-place result of 33-7 in the triple jump was a team-best for the Hawks girls.

Cooper Boys Tennis: Hawks 7, Columbia Heights 0

The Robbinsdale Cooper boys tennis team shutout Columbia Heights, 7-0, on Friday. Individual results were not available.
