Red Knights Sweep Mustangs In Friday Lacrosse Matchups

Local teams got in a good share of games on Friday as the weather cooperated enough for a full slate of baseball, softball and lacrosse matchups.

Cooper Baseball: Hawks 12, North Branch 2

The Robbinsdale Cooper baseball team remained unbeaten in the North Suburban Conference at 5-0 with a 12-2 defeat of visiting North Branch on Friday. Individual statistics were not available. The Hawks enter this week at 8-0 overall.

Cooper Softball: North Branch 8, Hawks 7

An 8-7 loss at North Suburban rival North Branch dropped the Robbinsdale Cooper softball team to 1-6 overall and 1-6 in the conference. Individual results were not available.

Armstrong Boys Lacrosse: Chaska/Chanhassen 11, Falcons 3

Daniel Scalzo, Jeremiah Carpenter and Earl Young scored one goal each for the Falcons in defeat.

Hopkins Boys Lacrosse: Edina 10, Royals 7

A 10-7 home loss to Lake Conference rival Edina on Saturday dropped the Hopkins boys lacrosse team's record to 3-4 on the season.

Ryan Hazuka scored three goals in the losing cause, with Kyle Law, Jake Fiedler, Griffith Woodyard and Derek Brueske each notching one tally apiece.

Hopkins Baseball: Royals 14, Wayzata 8

The Hopkins baseball team improved to 6-4 on the season with its first Lake victory of the season, a 14-8 defeat of visiting Wayzata on Friday. Individual results were not available.

Hopkins Softball: Royals 5, Wayzata 4

A 5-4 defeat of Wayzata at home on Friday night improved the Hopkins softball team to 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Lake. Pitcher Morgan Nybo earned the win with a complete-game performance.

Hopkins Boys Tennis: Royals 6, St. Louis Park 1

The Hopkins boys tennis team defeated St. Louis Park, 6-1, in a non-conference match on Friday. Individual statistics were not available.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Baseball: Red Knights 11, Orioles 7

The Benilde-St. Margaret's baseball team claimed a season sweep against St. Louis Park with an 11-7 victory on Friday night.

A five-run fifth inning clinched the contest for the Red Knights, who earned the win after a seventh-inning rally from the host Orioles fell short at Dakota Park.

Joe Melles had a team-high four runs batted in, while Greg Ziman drove in three runs for BSM, with teammate Patrick Daly going 3-for-3 at the plate with a single, double and triple and three runs scored.

Red Knights starting pitcher Marcus Barone earned the win with six hits, four runs and four strikeouts in six innings or work.

With the win, BSM improved to 7-2 overall and 7-1 in the North Suburban.

Benilde-St. Margaret's/Breck Boys Lacrosse: Red Knights 12, Mustangs 2

The defending state champion Benilde-St. Margaret's boys lacrosse team topped visiting Breck, 12-2, on Friday night.

Will Hoesley scored three goals for the Red Knights, with Christian Horn, Taylor Tapousis and Simon Gondeck netting two goals each; J.R. Sisk and Jack Tucker both scored once.

Stevel Kiesel scored both goals for the Mustangs, who fell to 1-4 with the loss.

Benilde-St. Margaret's/Breck Girls Lacrosse: Red Knights, 9, Mustangs 5

The Benilde-St. Margaret's girls lacrosse team improved to 3-2 on the season with a 9-5 win at Breck on Friday.

Paige Lawlor led the Red Knights with three goals, with Abby Grunewald, Hailey Hansen, Christine Gunderson, Caitlin Reilly and Sara Taffe each logging one goal apiece.

Benilde-St. Margaret's Softball: Spring Lake Park 4, Red Knights 1

A 4-1 loss to visiting Spring Lake Park on Friday night dropped the Benilde-St. Margaret's softball team to 4-2 on the season.

Kate Schipper drove in three runs for the Mustangs on a 2-for-5 day at the plate, while she and Megan Sweet each scored two runs apiece; Libbey Castle notched two RBI, with Schipper pitching Breck to the win with 12 strikeouts in a complete game.

Breck Baseball: St. Croix Lutheran 4, Mustangs 2
