Robbinsdale Armstrong's Conrad Advances To Section Semis

Conrad, the section's No. 2 seed, will face Wayzata's Dustin Britton at 8 a.m. Wednesday

Robbinsdale Armstrong’s Mark Conrad labored, but the No. 2 seed enters Wednesday’s Section 6AA semifinal unbeaten in the section tournament after a 2-0 showing Tuesday at the University of Minnesota Baseline Tennis Center.

Conrad beat Holy Angels’ Peter McGrane in a back and forth 7-5, 6-4 match to open up play Tuesday, then defeated Benilde-St. Margaret’s Andrew Poley 6-4, 0-6, 6-4 to advance to Wednesday’s semifinal.

He will face Wayzata’s Dustin Britton, the No. 3 seed, at 8 a.m.

Armstrong’s Nathaniel Kurtzweg went 1-1 on Tuesday, beating Cooper’s Tyler Cogswell 6-1, 6-0 in the opening round before losing to top-seeded Ryan Erickson of Hopkins, 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles action, Armstrong’s Luke Seaburg and Nathaniel Rudd went 1-1 on the day, while Nathan Virnig and Matthew Speier also went 1-1. Virnig and Speier lost to Hopkins’ Michael Fields and Manfred Barrios, who advanced to the section semifinals.

For Cooper, Ian Jones and Peter Nguyen finished the tournament 1-1, while Joseph Lavalier and Dustin Schultz lost their first match, finishing 0-1 for the tournament.
