Sports Roundup: Falcons Run At Rum River Invitational

On a week in which the fall sports season really felt like autumn, Golden Valley-area teams closed out the first half of their 2011 campaigns.

Armstrong Girls Cross-Country

With three top-10 individual finishes, the Robbinsdale Armstrong girls cross-country team took second at the Rum river Invitational in Anoka on Thursday. 

Emily Knapczyk led the Falcons with a second-place run of 15 minutes, 19 seconds. Anna Machbor took third in 15:23 and Melissa Cabak came in fifth in 15:37.

Armstrong Boys Cross-Country

The Armstrong boys cross-country team finished eighth at the Rum River Invite, as Nathan Comer paced the Falcons on the 5,000-meter course with a 14th-place finish of 17:25. 

Armstrong Volleyball

A fourth-straight three-game match loss dropped the Armstrong volleyball team to 1-5 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.

Armstrong Girls Soccer

The Armstrong girls soccer team dropped to 1-4-1 with a 1-0 loss to Park Center on Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Lee Brooks scored the only goal for the Robbinsdale Cooper boys soccer team in a 10-1 loss to Totino-Grace. The Hawks fell to 0-8 on the year.

The Cooper girls tennis team lost 7-0 to Totino-Grace on Thursday. Individual statistics were not made available.

Breck Boys Soccer

The Breck boys soccer team recorded its second-straight shutout with a 3-0 defeat of Concordia Academy on Thursday. Goalkeeper Jake Duxbury recorded his third clean sheet of the season as the Mustangs improved to 4-4-1.

A 2-1 defeat of St. Agnes improved the Breck girls soccer team to 2-1 on the season. Individual statistics were not made available.
