Despite less-than ideal conditions, the spring sports season began in earnest this week for local squads, with the Robbinsdale Cooper baseball team serving notice early of its intention to compete for North Suburban Conference honors with a ten-run drubbing of rival Benilde-St. Margaret's on Thursday.

Robbinsdale Armstrong: Falcons 8, Park Center 0
The Robbinsdale Armstrong baseball team is now 2-1 on the season after shutting out host Park Center, 8-0, in Northwest Suburban Conference play on Thursday.
The victory was the Falcons' second in a row following an 8-7 season-opening loss at Coon Rapids as Armstrong also topped Anoka, 3-2, at home on Wednesday night.
Armstrong is slated to host Blaine on Friday at 4:15 p.m.
Breck Boys Lacrosse: Mustangs 9, Champlin Park 5
The Breck boys lacrosse team won its season opener, 9-5, at home against Champlin Park on Tuesday.
Steven Kiesel netted four goals and Keegan O'Connor tallied two for the Mustangs in the win, with Joe Miller making six saves.
Breck is scheduled to Stillwater at 7:30 p.m. Friday night.

The Robbinsdale Armstrong softball team claimed win No. 1 of the spring with a 1-0 defeat of Park Center on Thursday. Individual results were not available.
The victory improves the Falcons to 1-2 on the year, after Armstrong lost 3-1 to Blaine and 4-3 to Anoka on Friday and Wednesday, respectively.
The Falcons host Elk River at 4:15 p.m. Monday afternoon.
Breck Girls Lacrosse: Mustangs Open Season at 1-2
The Breck girls lacrosse team is 1-2 on the season after back-to-back losses to Visitation and Maranatha following a 6-5 victory at Prior Lake to open the year on Monday.
Carly Schaeder leads the Mustangs with seven goals and two assists throught three games, with Leah Schwartzman accounting for three goals on the year so far.
Breck travels to Hopkins on Monday at 4:30 p.m.

The Robbinsdale Cooper girls lacrosse team lost its season opener, 10-3, at home to Anoka on Wednesday night. Individual results were not available.

The Robbinsdale Cooper softball team began the season with an 0-3 record after losses to Chisago Lakes (6-3), Totino-Grace (12-0) and Benilde-St. Margaret's (11-1).
