Sports Roundup: Local Squads Roll Into September

Light mid-week stretch for most, as several teams had already played their final pre-Labor Day contests.

It was a light mid-week stretch for the local sports teams, as many squads were already completed with their pre-Labor Day weekend schedules as the calendar turned from August to September.

Hopkins Volleyball

The ninth-ranked Hopkins volleyball team bounced back from a loss to sixth-ranked Centennial on Tuesday by sweeping visiting Orono in three games (25-19, 25-12, 25-20) to improve to 2-1 on the young season. Individual statistics were not available.

Hopkins Cross Country Running

The Hopkins cross country running teams competed in the Matterhorn Invitational in Brooklyn Park on Thursday, with both the girls and boys squads finishing second to Eden Prairie with 63 and 45 points, respectively. Individual statistics were not available.

A 4-3 win over visiting Benilde-St. Margaret's on Wednesday improved the Hopkins girls tennis team to 4-1 in dual matches this season. Individual statistics were not available. 

Cooper Volleyball

The Robbinsdale Cooper volleyball team fell in four games (14-25, 25-22, 22-25, 17-25) on Thursday to drop to 1-1 on the year. Individual statistics were not available.

Cooper Girls Soccer

A 6-0 loss at No. 1-ranked Benilde-St. Margaret's on Thursday dropped the Cooper girls soccer team to 0-2-1 on the season. Individual statistics were not available.

Cooper Boys Soccer

Also losing to Benilde-St. Margaret's was the Cooper boys soccer team as the Hawks lost 6-0 to the third ranked Red Knights on Thursday. Individual statistics were not available. 

Cooper Cross Country Running

Cooper's Kaelyn Williams won the individual title at the Matterhorn Invitational cross country running meet on Thursday with a time of 14 minutes, 39 seconds.

Team-wise the Hawks girls finished fourth with 72 points, with the boys also taking fourth in their race with 104 points.

Cooper Girls Tennis

The Cooper girls tennis team was shutout, 7-0, by Benilde-St. Margaret's on Thursday. Individual statistics were not available.

Armstrong Girls Tennis

The Robbinsdale Armstrong girls tennis team defeated Park Center, 4-3, on Thursday. Individual statistics were not available.

Armstrong Girls Swimming/Diving

Wayzata defeated the Armstrong girls swimming and diving team, 98-77, on Thursday. Individual statistics were not available.

Armstrong Volleyball

A three-game match loss (10-25, 16-25, 15-25) to No. 2-ranked Bloomington Jefferson dropped the Armstrong volleyball team to 1-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not available.

Breck Girls Soccer

The Breck girls soccer team claimed its first victory of the season with a 3-0 defeat of Brooklyn Center in Tri-Metro play on Thursday, improving to 1-2 on the season. Individual statistics were not available.

Breck Boys Soccer

The Breck boys soccer team also won its first game of the year, topping Mounds Park Academy, 3-0, on Thursday to up its record to 1-3 this autumn. Individual statistics were not available.

Breck Volleyball

Continuing a Thursday trend, the Breck volleyball team also won its first match of the season, downing host Brooklyn Center in a three-game sweep (25-17, 26-24, 25-14) to even its record at 1-1. Individual statistics were not available.
