Submarine veteran to offer history lesson on U.S. submarines and the U.S. Navy

Covenant Village of Golden Valley will host submarine veteran David Anderson, who will present "WWII Veterans: A Bridge to the Future."

Covenant Village of Golden Valley, a faith-based, not-for-profit continuing care retirement community administered by Covenant Retirement Communities, will host submarine veteran David Anderson, who will present “WWII Veterans: A Bridge to the Future,” on Thursday, Sept. 11.

The program will begin at 1 p.m. The first American submarine – called the Turtle – was designed before the Revolutionary War and used to attack British ships in New York harbor in 1776. The attempt failed, but over the centuries the submarine has become an essential part of the U.S. Navy. Anderson, a former base commander at Mpls/St. Paul USSVI base, will provide a history lesson on U.S. submarines during World War II and discuss the importance of the U.S. Navy during times of war and peace.

Anderson is chairman of the board for the Minnesota Submarine League, an organization dedicated to planning the construction of a “Bridge to the Future,” a memorial for the USS Mpls/St. Paul SSN 708 and its crew.
