Twin Cities Orthopedics and St. Croix Orthopaedics Integrate Practices
Two Minnesota-based orthopedic practices integrate to become one of the largest independently owned groups in the U.S.

Minneapolis, MN, April 22, 2015 - Twin Cities Orthopedics (TCO) and St. Croix Orthopaedics (SCO) have announced that they are integrating their practices in Summer 2015 to become one of the largest privately owned orthopedic practices in the United States.
Both TCO and SCO have a long history of providing specialty orthopedic services to patients in Minnesota and Wisconsin, including serving as the official sports medicine provider for a number of local universities, colleges, high schools and professional sports teams.
The integration of the two groups will result in a team of more than 100 orthopedic surgeons and will boast a 12,000 square-mile footprint across 35 locations, covering the majority of the Twin Cities metro area and western Wisconsin.
“TCO is excited for the two groups to join together,” said Troy Simonson, CEO of Twin Cities Orthopedics. “We have very similar cultures and are focused on improving patient care and finding ways to be efficient in the current healthcare environment. The geographic coverage of the two groups together creates a tremendous opportunity to serve the entire metro area and western Wisconsin with a broader service offering.”
In addition to the traditional diagnosis and treatment of orthopedic conditions, the new integrated practice will provide the entire spectrum of musculoskeletal care to individuals and athletes of all ages and abilities, including nutrition, injury prevention, sports performance, orthotics and prosthetics, imaging, outpatient surgery centers, physical and hand therapy and orthopedic urgent care.
Since their inception, both groups have remained focused on sustaining independence and resisting mergers from major health systems, believing that independence keeps them focused on the patient and innovation.
“This structure allows us to be the most flexible with our service and to prioritize the patient experience while continuing to carefully manage costs,” said Melanie Sullivan, CEO, St. Croix Orthopaedics. “We have a real opportunity to build something truly unique in the Midwest and we are excited about the possibilities this will provide.”
Both groups stress that patients will not be impacted by the integration other than they will have access to more specialty services, providers, and locations. While the integration efforts will be completed mid-summer 2015, Simonson and Sullivan said they do not anticipate immediate staffing changes, as the administrative transition is expected to continue through the year. Currently, TCO employs approximately 970 support staff while SCO employs around 170.
