Today's riddle: What happened to the pregnant cat that ate yarn? 🤔 (Answer below!)
• Hastings moves forward with environmental litigation (hastingsjournal.news) — Hastings city leaders have formally authorized outside attorneys to launch environmental litigation over PFAS contamination in the municipal water system, aiming to recover some of the city's mounting treatment and infrastructure costs. The council also hired Minnesota-based local counsel on a contingency basis, meaning legal fees depend on a successful recovery, as officials juggle expensive new treatment plants, wells, and water main upgrades with pressure on local water rates.
• MnDOT gives Rotary an inside look at Highway 61 reconstruction (hastingsjournal.news) — Hastings drivers, businesses, and pedestrians face a massive Highway 61 reconstruction in 2028–29 that will overhaul intersections, add medians and roundabouts, and rebuild the aging Todd Field retaining wall while keeping at least one lane open each way. MnDOT is coordinating with the city, schools, and utilities to improve safety, traffic flow, sidewalks, and underground infrastructure, though full funding for the $64 million project is still being secured.
