• USW/Cliffs steelmaking contract talks to resume Thursday (hometownsource.com) — If you work at or rely on Hibbing Taconite, key labor contract talks between the United Steelworkers and Cleveland-Cliffs resume this week and will shape pay and job security. With Hibbing Taconite partially idled and hundreds laid off, negotiations on both the steelmaking and mining sides continue under extended contracts that either party can cancel with 48 hours' notice.
   

• Mesabi Metallics selects Iowa for steel plant (hometownsource.com) — Hibbing residents are watching a major steel investment head to Iowa, even though Iron Range ore and local lawmakers are central to the project's story. Mesabi Metallics will build a $15 billion steel mill in southeastern Iowa, using DR-grade pellets from its nearly finished Nashwauk mine, while Iron Range legislators blame Minnesota's taxes and permitting for losing thousands of potential jobs and massive economic impact.
