Academics on Democratic Visions

Two notable Minnesota academics take measure of the 2012 general election on the current edition of Democratic Visions, the public and political issues cableTV program produced through DFL Senate District 48. 

St. Olaf College Religion Department Professor David Booth explains why the so-called marriage amendment on the November ballot failed even as it seemed in early October that it would easily pass.   Dr. Booth feels that pro-marriage amendment messaging did not reach voters on a personal level and led them to perceive the proposed amendment as a threat to the well being of thousands of Minnesotans.  Author and Metropolitan State University History Professor Douglas Rossinow comments on the continual shifting of Minnesota’s political winds.  To be effective, majority legislators, Dr. Rossinow advises Democrats to avoid the partisan mistakes of the Republican legislators who now form the minority.
