Citizens Academy Registration Now Open

Have you ever wondered how county taxes are assessed, and where your tax money goes? Would you like to learn what goes into plowing county roads every winter?

The Hennepin County Citizens Academy will help residents better understand the scope of county government by giving attendees the chance to interact face-to-face with county leaders and elected officials, including the commissioners, county administrator, sheriff, county attorney and department directors.

Sessions will be held weekly at facilities throughout the county on Wednesdays from 6:30 – 9 p.m. April 4 – May 23 (no class April 11). Each session will cover a variety of topics, including:

  • Developing the county budget
  • The elections process
  • Transportation and road safety
  • Human services and public health
  • The county’s role in public safety
  • Hennepin County Medical Center
  • Environmental services
  • Transit and economic development

Residents interested in participating may register online by March 2. There are 35 seats available that will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis. For more information, visit www.hennepin.us/citizensacademy.
