Kayla Baumler Named 2012 Culinary Scholar
MINNEAPOLIS (October 10, 2012) — The Minneapolis chapter of Les Dames d’Escoffier International (LDEI) announced Kayla Baumler from Hopkins, MN., as the 2012 LDEI Minneapolis Scholar on October 4 at a public gala at Roth Distributing in Minnetonka celebrating the 100th birthday of French cooking expert Julia Child.
Baumler, a recent graduate of the Art Institutes International Minnesota, is the pastry chef at the Lafayette Club in Minnetonka and a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House. She received a scholarship award of $1,000.
LDEI Minneapolis chapter president, Julie Jones, says “Baumler’s academic excellence, commitment to community service and outstanding recognition as a
competitor in the Chaine des Rotisseurs Young Chef competitions, garnered the attention of our scholarship committee. Fundraising efforts such as our October 4 gala support LDEI philanthropic activities such as grants and scholarships for students entering the hospitality field,
community garden projects and programs of the Community Design Center.”
