Local Students Place in State Music Competition

Area students attending Lawrence University earned honors in the recent Wisconsin chapter of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) audition competition.

Martin Kulstad, son of John Kulstad and Elizabeth Mayotte, Hopkins, earned second-place honors in the sophomore men's division. A sophomore at Lawrence University, Kulstad is a 2011 graduate of Edina High School, Minneapolis, Minn. He received $125 for his performance.

Joshua Eidem, son of Jeffrey and Kris Eidem, Eden Prairie, earned third-place honors in the sophomore men's division. A sophomore at Lawrence University, Eidem is a 2011 graduate of Eden Prairie High School. He received $100 for his performance.

The 2012 auditions drew nearly 400 singers from around the state who competed in 20 separate divisions by gender and level. Depending upon the category, NATS competitors are required to sing two, three or four classical pieces from different time periods with at least one selection sung in a foreign language.
