Art in Stitches
Hopkins pair promotes sewing as an art and a craft in the community.

Sofia Johnson and Christine Trombley, members of the American Sewing Guild and Hopkins locals, are craftswomen with a purpose.
“To get more women involved with sewing as an art, because that's what it really is,” Trombley said.
Of course, sewing has other benefits, partucularly for those looking for camaraderie.

“It's really fun to get together with people who speak your language.” said Johnson, who also serves on the Chapter Advisory Board. “I talk to my husband about a salvage; he thinks it's some kind of metal that's going to be thrown away somewhere.”
The American Sewing Guild booth can be found in the Creative Activities building on the corner of Dan Patch Ave and Cosgrove St.

Do you know someone who's participating in the state fair this year? Maybe they have a piece in the Creative Activites show. Maybe they're performing on one of the stages. Maybe they're a vendor. If you know someone we should write about, e-mail james.warden@patch.com.
