Blotter: Valley Park Sex, Hit With a Bat

Monday, July 30
- 6:32 a.m. — Someone broke into a van and stole tools while the vehicle was parked at the Hopkins Industrial Center.
- 11:35 a.m. — A Blake Road homeowner told police an elderly man arrived at the home holding a clipboard. The elderly man said he wanted someone to sign for something and asked if the homeowner wanted a Yellow Pages.
- 2:21 p.m. — Someone stole a bicycle from 1010 First Street South. The bike was found at Well No. 4 and returned to its owner.
Tuesday, July 31
- 4:34 a.m. — A resident told police someone went through two vehicle parked on the 700 block of Eighth Avenue South and stole money from inside the vehicles.
- 7:08 a.m. — Police learned that someone broke into a vehicle parked on Jackson Avenue South.
- 7:39 a.m. — Someone broke into a vehicle parked near . The contents of the vehicle were strewn across the driver and passenger seats and the floor, but nothing was taken.
- 7:40 a.m. — Police received a report that someone broke into a vehicle parked on the 700 block of Eighth Avenue South. Nothing was taken.
- 9:07 a.m. — Six steel curb boxes were stolen from a job site at the intersection of Ninth Avenue North and Third Street North. The boxes were valued at $70 each.
- 12:50 p.m. — Officers discovered a couple having sex in a vehicle at . They talked with the couple about their behavior.
- 5:10 p.m. — A Westbrooke Patio Homes resident told police someone broke into a vehicle and sole a canvas bag and a gallon bottle of windshield washer fluid from the trunk. The thief also stole change from the console.
- 6:07 p.m. — Police learned a catalytic converter was taken from a vehicle parked in the Cargill lot sometime between 2 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
- 6:52 p.m. — Officers received a report that another catalytic converter had been stolen from a vehicle in the Cargill lot.
- 7:59 p.m. — A caller told police someone was being hit with a bat near Midnite Market. Officers arrested one person.
- 8:42 p.m. — Someone tried to break into a vehicle on Van Buren Avenue South. The vehicle had only been tampered with. Nothing was taken, and there was no damage.

- 1:19 p.m. — A $100 worth of medical supplies was stolen from Dow Towers.
- 8:01 p.m. — Police received a call about a suspicious man near the Presidential Neighborhood. Officers found the man walking in the grass near Excelsior Boulevard and Van Buren Avenue South with his young daughter in a carrier. The man said he was part of the “neighborhood watch” and that he keeps late hours looking for suspicious activity.
Thursday, Aug. 2
- 8:47 p.m. — A parent told police a 14-year-old daughter had been walking on the 800 block of Sixth Street South when a man circling the area in a gold Impala got out and started asking her questions, such as how old she was. She got scared and ran home.
