‘What’s Goin’ On,’ A Tribute to Marvin Gaye

Vocalist Bruce A. Henry will present  “What’s Goin’ On” A Tribute to Marvin Gaye at the Hopkins Center For the Arts.  Bruce will be performing with a nine piece-ensemble that features some of Minnesota’s finest musicians and vocalists. Featured on this show will be vocalists extraordinaire Yolande Bruce (Moore by Four) and Aaron Keith Stewart (Sounds of Blackness) and Debbie Duncan.

If you are a fan of Marvin Gaye’s music you will love hearing many of his classic songs such as “What’s Goin’ On”, “Inner City Blues”, “Let’s Get It On”,  “How Sweet It Is”,  “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough”, “After The Dance” and “Distant Lover”. The show will also feature other lesser-known gems that showcase Marvin’s amazing stylistic range, such as the doo-op inspired “Wyatt Earp” and the Tony Bennet influenced “Accustomed to Her Face.  

Bruce A. Henry is a vocalist, performer and educator extraordinaire. Henry's eclectic vocal style has been influenced by legends such as John Coltrane, Leon Thomas, Gil Scott Heron, Al Jarreau, and Nina Simone.

Bruce possesses a three octave range, a pure voice with versatility few can match.  Bruce's music has taken him to five continents and he has recorded for Disney, HBO and numerous national ad campaigns. In addition he has performed with and opened for the likes of Doc Severinson, Roberta Flack, Chris Botti, Ramsey Lewis, Stephane Grapelli, Jimmy Jam and The Sounds of Blackness.

This activity is made possible in part by a grant provided by the Minnesota State Arts Board, through an appropriation by the Minnesota State Legislature from the Minnesota arts and cultural heritage fund with money from the vote of the people of Minnesota on November 4, 2008.

This is part of a 10 concert series featuring national and regional touring artists ranging from Lee Ritenour to The Persuasions to Neal & Leandra.
