Get Moving at Hopkins in Motion
The Sept. 17 event celebrates Hopkins' status as a 'livable, walkable community.'

Are you ready to get moving?
Hopkins in Motion will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 17 at Downtown Park and Ninth Avenue and Mainstreet.
The event was created in 2009 to celebrate Hopkins’ status as a “livable, walkable community.” Hopkins is the third most walkable community in Minnesota, behind only Minneapolis and St. Paul, according to Walk Score.

Here’s what will be available at Hopkins in Motion:
- A “Kids Korner” will offer games and free face painting for children of all ages.
- Three Rivers Park District will set up a climbing wall at the end of Ninth Avenue South along First Street.
- The Bandshell will be the site of various demonstrations—including belly dancing, drumming, karate, Zumba and dancing. Or learn hip-hop from hip-hop artist Carlos at 9:30 a.m.
- The will have extended hours, remaining open until 2 p.m. the ever-popular Bouja—a rich, hearty soup—will return this year.
- Hennepin County Master Gardeners will be available at the "Green Corner" to answer your gardening questions. There will also be compost bins and rain barrels.
- The will offer historical walks to look at buildings in Hopkins’ downtown.
- will have a free “bike corral” so attendees can ride their bikes to the event and store them securely.
- will sponsor a bike safety challenge, along with sales of bike helmets for $10 and multi-sport helmets for $15. Bike medics will be available to check bikes.
- Decorate your bike, stroller or wagon for the community parade with help from at the bike decoration station. Then join in the parade down Mainstreet at 1:30 p.m. Jazz band The Mouldy Figs, the Minnesota Roller Girls and the Raspberry Royalty will lead the parade.
- Winners of the People's Choice and Children's Choice Awards will be announced at the Downtown Park bandshell at noon. (And don’t forget to .)
- There will be hourly prize drawings with a grand prize drawing at 1 pm.
- Vendor booths featuring food, products and services will line Ninth Avenue.
