(VIDEO) Arts Center Concert Series Preview: The Persuasions
No instruments are necessary for this a cappella group out of Brooklyn.
You might recognize some of your favorite songs when The Persuasions perform them, but they’ll be missing something: the instruments.
The group, which specializes in a cappella music, formed in Brooklyn, NY, and visits the on Saturday.
Jimmy Hayes, the bass voice for the group, described the group as traditional.

“We cover a lot of songs. We take the songs and put the Persuasions spin on them,” Hayes said.
The Persuasions’ most recent album, “Knockin’ on Bob’s Door,” covers classic songs from Bob Dylan’s music career.

“We took those songs and put the Persuasions' twist on them. Now I’m listening to his CD and then our CD of the same songs and I said, ‘Wow, this is like night and day,’” Hayes said.
Some of the other artists that The Persuasions have covered in their 50-year history include Frank Zappa, The Grateful Dead, and The Beatles.
For their concert in Hopkins, Hayes said that the group plans to draw from their entire body of work.
“We’ll start with some of the earlier albums we recorded and then just go all the way up,” he said.
Jimmy Hayes will be accompanied by Joe Russell, Jayotis Washington, Ray Sanders, and Dave Revels.
The concert takes place at 8 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $26 and are available on the arts center’s website.
