Tonia Sorenson, 38, was hit Friday in Uptown.

A Hopkins woman is in critical condition after being hit by a taxi Friday night in Uptown, a Hennepin County Medical Center spokeswoman said.
Tonia Sorenson, 38, was hit at about 9:30 p.m., just after stepping into the street at the intersection of Hennepin Avenue and Lake Street. A Minneapolis police sergeant told the Star Tribune that Sorenson was on life support.

Police Sgt. William Palmer told Patch on Sunday that there are not yet any charges. The cab driver was not under the influence of alcohol. Palmer said that pedestrians always have right-of-way but that it's not yet known whether control signals indicated that it was safe to cross the street when the women were hit.
The department's traffic unit is evaluating the case. The result of the investigation should take a couple weeks.
