“Bookawocky,” Hennepin County Library’s summer program series for kids and teens, is in full swing at local libraries.  Storytimes, book clubs, art programs, music, movies, online activities, and other free activities are scheduled.   Author, small business, career, and other free programs for adults are offered this summer, too.

The following activities are scheduled in July at Hennepin County Library – Hopkins:

My Favorite Monster Workshop 

  • Tuesday, July 10, 2-3:30 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Registration required; began June 12; limit 20. Entering grades 2-6. Make a color shadow puppet of your favorite monster! Griffins, aliens, mermaids – the sky is the limit. Learn how to puppet your monster behind the big screen, and take your new friend home.

Girls Only Jr. Book Club 

  • Thursdays, July 12 & 26, 2-2:30 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Register online or call 612-543-6400.
    Girls entering grades 2-3. Join other girls to talk about a great book! Pick up a copy of the book at the Information Desk.

Used Book Sale 

  • Friday, July 13, 1-4 p.m., Saturday, July 14, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • The Friends of the Library will hold a sale of hundreds of adult and children's fiction and nonfiction books in hardcover and paperback. Most books, withdrawn from the Hennepin County Library system or donated by the public, will be priced $1 or less. Funds raised will benefit the library.

Friday, July 13, 1-4 p.m. - Friends of HCL members only. Join at the door!
Saturday, July 14, 1-4 p.m. - Bag Sale, $4/bag  

Inventing With Hugo

  • Tuesday, July 17, 2-4 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Registration required; begins June 19; limit 25. Entering grades 1-6. Use your imaginations to design, create and construct handmade toys. Explore various arts and crafts materials including wood, wire, cardboard and clay to create a board game and sculptural wooden toy.

Together We Build!

  • Wednesday, July 18, 10:30-11:30 a.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Preschoolers and their caregivers. Join us for stories and construction fun at the library!

Brodini Comedy Magic Show

  • Tuesday, July 24, 10:30 a.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Entering K-grade 6. Magician Graylyn Morris will raise spirits and test kids' powers of concentration as he manipulates ropes, scarves, balls and other magician's props in a perplexing "now-you-see-it, now-you-don't" performance!

Paint It Green: Nature Digital Photos

  • Tuesday, July 31, 2-3:30 p.m. at Hopkins Library
  • Registration required; begins July 3; limit 20. Entering grades 3-5. Zoom in to the library to take a closer look at nature through the lens of a camera. Go on a photo scavenger hunt, learn about the life cycle of a plant and create a living seed necklace. Digital cameras provided.

This project is funded with money from Minnesota's Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
