Navab Warehouse Closing, Building Upgrades Complete

Powell Business Center renovations were finished two months early.

Navab Brothers Oriental Rug Co. plans to close its warehouse in Hopkins, said Sam Navab, one of the owners.

The company decided to close the Hopkins space because of the economy, Navab said.

“We’re having issues with running our operations at different locations,” he said.

The company does not yet have a firm date for when it will permanently close the warehouse, he said. The warehouse’s closing sale runs through Oct. 31. Navab’s St. Louis Park space will remain open.

The closure comes just after renovations were completed on the 7900 Excelsior Blvd. building Navab occupies. Powell Business Center renovations were finished two months early, owner Alex Ugorets said.

The company launched an upgrade in the spring that added a 3,400-square-foot addition to the building’s second floor, an elevator and a new glass and stone exterior.

The building, originally 137,000 square feet, was at capacity with about 20 tenants. The upgrades make room for a small insurance agency already lined up to move in.
